The New River Adventure Program combines the teamwork, leadership, and confidence building activities of the COPE Course with the thrills, skills, and challenges of four more high adventure programs, including a whitewater rafting trip on the New River Gorge, the biggest whitewater in the East! This unique week-long program is specifically designed for older Scouts. You will spend your entire week doing Each of the following programs:
In order to participate, you must be at least 13 years old by the January 1st of the camp year, must be in good physical condition, and must pass th BSA's Swimmer's Test on arrival at camp. You need some canoeing experience: Canoeing Merit Badge is preferred.
Gear
All particiants MUST bring: several pair of durable long pants (especially jeans) and tennis shoes for COPE; a canteen or plastic water bottle, leather gloves, 4 new AA batteries, two small flashlights with new batteries, WARM clothing and hiking boots for caving. They'll also need: river wear, ( swim trunks, & polypropylene shirt or vest), including "get wet" shoes, a small day pack or fanny pack, and rain gear. We recommend sun screen. Please don't bring cowboy boots or large belt buckles.
